German Institute of Science and Technology – TUM ASIA

Established in 2002, German Institute of Science and Technology - TUM Asia (TUM Asia) is a subsidiary of Technische Universität München (TUM) in Singapore and the result of the first ever German - Asian universities partnership. TUM Asia is also recognised by Ministry of Education Singapore, as an Institute of Higher Learning and is regularly audited by the Council of Private Edcuation of Singapore. Ranked as one of the three elite Universities by the German government in 2006 and obtained an Excellence Award, TUM is a premier address in Europe as one of the most innovative institutions of higher learning in Germany. It is renowned for the quality and diverse opportunities it offers its students. Through the joint Master programmes with Singapore’s renowned universities, the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), TUM Asia programmes distinguish themselves among others by bringing together experts from world-renowned universities and aim to bridge academic education, industry knowledge and research to qualify young professionals for technology-oriented leadership roles in a competitive global economy. At the moment, TUM Asia is offering a total of three joint Master degrees with NUS and NTU. They are Master of Science in Integrated Circuit Design, Master of Science in Industrial Chemistry and Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering. TUM Asia also offers pure TUM programmes in Master of Science in Transport and Logistics and Master of Science in Biomedical Imaging. The latest addition to TUM Asia’s programmes is the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, both operate in collaboration with the Singapore Institute of Technology. All TUM Asia’s master programmes are full-time programmes and conduct in English. The class size is limited to 30 students per Master programme and the academic year usually starts in early August. Classes are conducted on a modular basis and student needs to complete an internship programme and submit a Master thesis to meet the graduation requirements. Depending on programme, the teaching staff are carefully selected from mainly TUM, NUS and /or NTU and the industry respectively. Since its inception, TUM Asia has produced over 300 graduates. Our students come from India, China, ASEAN countries and European countries. In Singapore, TUM Asia's graduates are working with corporate leaders such as BASF, Broadcom, Degussa Construction Chemicals, Glaxo Wellcome, Infineon, Novartis, Siemens, Sued-Chemie, Sumitomo Bakelites Singapore, Schering, Texas Instruments, Wacker, ST Aerospace, Eurocopter, Pratt & Whitney, D B Schenker and Shell, amongst others. There are also a significant number of them who are currently pursuing their doctoral degrees with TUM or with other reputable universities in the world.
