In addition to the merit score in entrance test called Vishwavidyalaya Research entrance test (VRET), the students from weaker sections as defined in the constitution of India (scheduled caste and scheduled tribes) are admitted as per their reservation. Similar provisions as per the government of India norm are followed for economically weaker sections and other backward   classes to ensure inclusivity and access  in higher education. The students having extra curricular achievements at different levels are given preference.

The minimum eligibility criteria for a Ph.D. in Forensics in the university require candidates to have completed a Master's degree in Forensics or a related field with a minimum aggregate percentage, typically ranging from 55% to 60%.
All the eligible internal full-time research scholars of the university teaching departments (not the affiliated colleges) admitted through Vishwavidyalaya Research Entrance Test (VRET) not getting any financial assistance from any funding agency may be provided fellowship for his/her full residential period (two/three years as per Ph. D. Ordinance). However, the period of fellowship may be extended to a maximum period of three years for Arts and Humanities stream and four years for Science streams subject to submission of evaluation report after two/three years through the Research Degree Committee (RDC) to be finally approved by the Vice-Chancellor.
