Hadhramout University (HU) was established in 1993. Its main campus is located in Mukalla City,
the capital of Hadhramout Governorate, Yemen. Hadhramout University currently
has thirteen faculties distributed in Mukalla and Socotra Island: Medicine and
health sciences faculty, engineering and petroleum faculty, administrative
sciences faculty, sciences faculty, nursing faculty, education faculty,
education-Socotra faculty, computers and IT faculty, law faculty, arts and
humanities faculty, environmental sciences and marine biology faculty, women
faculty, and open education faculty. The bachelor’s degree program began in the
academic year 1995-1996 with the opening of three faculties: the Engineering and
Petroleum faculty, the women’s faculty, and the education faculty. Additionaly, , the University also has 11 research and training centers:
academic development and quality assurance center, women center, information
technology center, environmental studies and water resources center, human and
social studies center, University advisory center, renewable energy studies
center, languages center, center of girls’ education, Hadhramout University for
students training, and international cooperation and ranking center. The
university also has three community service centers: University Hospital for genecology,
obstetrics, and children, Hadhramout University Family Medicine center, and
Model University kindergarten. The total number of undergraduate students
enrolled in the academic year 2023-2024 was 13192 (7409 males and 5783
females). The total number of postgraduate students of the academic year
2023-2024 was 850 (514 males and 336 females). The total number of staff
members and their assistants for the academic year 2023-2024 was 1005. The university
has 60 undergraduate program: medicine and surgery, pharmacy, medical
laboratory sciences, nursing, petroleum engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, chemical engineering, electronic and communication engineering,
architecture engineering, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, mathematics,
IT, computer sciences, marketing, accounting, finance and banking sciences, business
administration, administrative information systems, history, geography, psychology, Arabic and English language, Islamic studies, journalism, communication and
media, children education, art education, sports education, home economics, social service, kindergarten, marine biology, environmental
sciences, food sciences, political sciences, sociology, philosophy, and law. The
University also has 66 postgraduate programs. The University study is based on study plans
implemented by the scientific departments and endorsed by the University
Council at the recommendation of the Faculty councils. These plans indicate
the courses and their distribution to the studying levels, their classes, the
number of hours allocated to each course, and the department that teaches them.

maximum of four elective courses. The study plan is structured into
documents containing the detailed terms of each course and specifying the

of Arab Universities (AArU), Federations of the Universities of the Islamic

The University study is based on study plans implemented by the scientific departments and endorsed by the university council at the recommendation of the faculty councils. These plans indicate the courses and their distribution to the studying levels, their classes, the number of hours allocated to each course, and the department that teaches them.
