The Educational and Psychological Sciences Department is the core department of the Faculty of Education in Mukalla. It is responsible for teaching educational and psychological courses across all faculty programs. The department offers two undergraduate programs: Guidance and Counseling, and Classroom Teacher, the latter being a collaborative program involving all scientific departments.

The Guidance and Counseling program aims to prepare qualified professionals capable of providing guidance and counseling services within educational institutions. It also seeks to supply society with specialists in psychological counseling, particularly to help address learning difficulties faced by students at various academic levels. The Classroom Teacher program was developed in alignment with the strategic plan of the Ministry of Education. It focuses on preparing teachers for the first three grades of basic education and involves contributions from most scientific departments in the faculty.

Graduates of the department are awarded a Bachelor’s degree in Education, with specializations in either Psychological and Educational Counseling or Classroom Teaching. The department boasts the largest academic faculty in the faculty, all of whom hold doctoral degrees in various educational and psychological disciplines. The doctoral programs have significantly contributed to the development of this academic body. Additionally, the department houses a psychological assessment lab equipped with modern psychological testing tools. Several cohorts have graduated from the department and are now employed across various sectors of society.
