The study program in the
bachelor degree of medicine and general surgery at the college of Medicine
Hadhramout University (HUCOM) depends on the problem-based study (PBL), and the
duration of the study to obtain bachelor degree is 6 years (6 levels of the
study achieved) plus one year of compulsory (excellence training ( 6 + 1). The
study is divided into two study stages: The first stage (the pre-clinical
stage) includes the first, second and third levels, during which the human
body’s systems are studied as units of study (blocks), in addition to
university requirements and other courses taught longitudinally, this stage covers 30 weeks divided into 6 modular healthy human growth blocks (from conception to elderly with introductory elements to health and services, study of medicine including the problem based-learning, health team role, emergency and first aids. The second and third year
of the first stage are devoted to pathogenesis stage of health. It
covers 60 weeks divided into 12 modular organ-system blocks. The second stage
(clinical stage), includes the fourth, fifth and sixth levels, during
which clinical medical sciences courses are studied. Clinical training in primary, secondary and tertiary care with
clerkship. In the sixth year, major clinical disciplines. It covers 114
weeks divided between the three years clinical disciplines where students discuss problems and receive training in relevant
disciplines. After the student successfully passes the blocks and courses of
the two stages, the student is sent for training for the internship year (12
months) in hospitals and health centers approved by the College Council. Upon
completion, the graduate is awarded a bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery
(MBBS). During the last 15 years, further changes and development took place to improve the clinical training led to the use of newly introduced Clinical Presentation Curriculum (CPC) . The total credit hours for the program is 250 hour, which devidide into:
University requirements (16 hours).
Specilization courses (234 hours).
Practical, clinical and field training (100 hours).
After obtaining a degree in medicine and general surgery, the student will get career opertunities at government and private hospitals and at private clinics in the healthcare sector.
Goals of the program:
Graduation doctor who is prepared
psychologically and behaviorally to work efficiently in the field of curative,
preventive and rehabilitative health.
Formation of the graduate’s
integrated personal, and development of his ability of collection, analysis and
conclusion, his ability to solve the health problems in the community,
independent thinking and making the right decision.
Development of the graduates
doctors through practical application, postgraduate programs and continuous
education.
Encourage and guide the
scientific research towards health problems in the region, and to harness its
results for the sides in relation in order to make the proper decision.
Active participation by the
students of the program and its academic team in providing and developing the
direct health services for social progression.
Instill the original human values
and achievements of the Arab and Islamic civilization in the graduate’s
soul, as an incentive to work in the construction of the future, and the
development of the spirit and faith in the future of the Arab nation, to make
him able to cope with problems in the community and to overcome them.
