The aim of the Master’s degree program in Biotechnology is to train competitive and highly demanded specialists who possess advanced knowledge and practical skills for work across interdisciplinary sectors, including medical, pharmaceutical, food, environmental, agricultural, chemical, and industrial-engineering biotechnology. The program is designed to develop professionals capable of integrating advancements in molecular biology, bioengineering, bioinformatics, chemical technologies, and digital analytics to address current challenges in national, regional, and international organizations. The program focuses on developing a wide range of research competencies, including the creation of biotechnological products, modeling of biological processes, application of omics-analysis methods, design of bioengineering systems, and management of biotechnological production processes. Special emphasis is placed on mastering advanced tools such as genetic and cellular technologies, bioreactor and enzymatic processes, environmental biotechnologies, biosensors, biomaterials, and digital platforms for processing biological data. The program prepares scientific and teaching personnel for higher education institutions and colleges by fostering a high level of research culture, project-analytical skills, the ability to design interdisciplinary solutions, and participation in international scientific and industrial collaborations. Graduates acquire competencies that enable them to work effectively at the intersection of biotechnology, engineering, medicine, environmental sciences, and high-tech industrial sectors.

Admission Requirements

Admission of foreign citizens to METU on a fee-paying basis is carried out based on the results of an interview conducted by the METU Admission Committee throughout the calendar year. Enrollment of foreign citizens is carried out in accordance with the academic calendar, no later than 5 (five) days before the start of the next academic period (admission before the start of the 2nd semester is allowed). Documents in a foreign language must be submitted with a notarized translation into Kazakh or Russian. Educational documents issued by foreign educational institutions are subject to the recognition procedure in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan after the applicant’s enrollment, within the first academic period of study.

Each foreign student is assigned a curator who assists throughout the entire period of study, including guidance on clubs, internships, and other activities.
The university has its own medical center, and in case of emergencies, the assigned curator assists students.
Upon arrival, it is necessary to make a notarized translation of the educational document into Kazakh or Russian in two copies: one is submitted to the Admissions Committee, and the second to the Public Service Center to apply for nostrification. This service is paid and costs up to $80, depending on the annually approved Monthly Calculation Index.
Tuition fees may be adjusted in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On Education” in case of significant changes in the cost of educational services, labor costs, or inflation, but not more than once a year. In such cases, the parties sign a corresponding supplementary agreement.
The university assists in obtaining a student visa only after all foreign applicants have completed the mandatory verification procedures in accordance with the requirements of the relevant legislation.
