The Nuclear Engineering Department was established in 2007 at the Jordan University of Science and Technology and is the only academic department in Jordan that grants a bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering. The establishment of the department is the starting point in establishing the Jordanian nuclear power project, which seeks to reduce dependence on imported fuel, as it is a primary source of energy in Jordan, and to make nuclear energy one of the most important sources of alternative energy in Jordan.

The nuclear engineering curriculum is designed in a way that reflects the needs of the local community and region and contributes to the development of natural resources and infrastructure. The Department of Nuclear Engineering seeks to graduate highly qualified nuclear engineers to assist in the development of nuclear power plants and meet the national needs of Jordan, as well as to provide our graduates with the education necessary to work in neighboring countries or anywhere in the world.

The Department of Nuclear Engineering has obtained ABET accreditation (Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology - USA) since 2008.
