Literature is an aesthetic expression of personal and social values. In English Literature you will discover ways in which knowledge of the paradigms and methodologies of psychoanalysis can illuminate our reading of literary texts from the medieval period to the present day. Texts are analysed with respect to their originating culture, periods and genres as well as their continuing influence. You might consider the historical, socio-political, economic, gender and geographical contexts of fiction, poetry, drama and film. In Psychology, you’ll learn about what the latest psychology research, including studies published by our own friendly staff, tells us about human behaviour from social, developmental, biological and cognitive perspectives. We will show you how to design and conduct your own psychological studies in our well-equipped labs using a range of techniques including interviews, surveys and experiments.
