The upstream oil and gas industry is changing rapidly. In order for today’s professional geoscientists to embrace this change, increased understanding and utilization of intelligent technologies become critical for exploring for and developing oil and gas plays. The suggested program structure aligns well with the targeted industry - adopting advanced technology, including AI, machine learning, data analytics, geological/geochemical modeling, and advanced reservoir analytics.

The Proposed MS program will teach the students about recent advances in the digital transformation occurring in the upstream oil and gas sector, such as, artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data analytics, and geological/geophysical modeling and reservoir characterization, making the program more relevant to all government and all industry focus areas as well as those of academia.

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, geophysics, petroleum engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or other engineering fields from an accredited institution. Students with BS in physical science or engineering who completed coursework equivalent to at least a minor in Geology or Geophysics (18 credit hours) or equivalent professional experience may be accepted.
  • For non-geosciences background candidate, completion of undergraduate coursework in Geology/Geophysics is required.
