Comparative Literature is the study of literature beyond the borders of one particular country or cultural group, and the study of the interactions between literature and other forms of human expression, including the arts, the sciences, and cultural artefacts of all kinds. Students can learn the similarities and differences between literature written in different places and at different times in the heart of London, alongside study of film theory. The Comparative Literature modules embrace 12 languages and six continents and span over 2,500 years. It focuses beyond the modern and ancient literatures of Europe to the Americas, Australia, the Middle East, South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. Each year includes two Film Studies modules, which will provide students with a detailed knowledge of both the creative potential of film, and the relationship between film and society.
