The Government of Hong Kong SAR has set aside resources to promote arts and culture and to develop green tourism. With the ongoing popularity of Palace Museum and M+ and the future developments of the West Kowloon Cultural District, Hong Kong’s role as an East meets West centre for international arts and cultural exchange will continue to be promoted and strengthened. As specified in the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area and the Culture and Tourism Development Plan for the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area (the CTD Plan), the promotion of cultural heritage and green tourism projects with Hong Kong characteristics, enhancing tourism promotion, and rolling out enticing promotional offers in a timely manner to attract tourists from outside Hong Kong can help consolidate Hong Kong’s position as a core demonstration zone for multi-destination tourism and an international tourism hub.

As a result, there is a need to prepare students with the knowledge of heritage management, tourism, and skills to tackle problems and challenges related to heritage tourism and management, along with design or research methodology to provide innovative solutions. This will be achieved by introducing the Concentration with an interdisciplinary approach, where by the specialities of the School of Graduate Studies, Department of History, Office of Service Learning, and Science Unit collaborate in offering a unique master’s programme with an aim to enhance the heritage tourism sector in terms of visibility and ecological sustainability.
