The MA in Linguistics (Uzbek Language and Literature) program at Navoi State University is an advanced, research-oriented graduate program designed to deepen students’ theoretical knowledge and analytical skills in linguistics, Uzbek language studies, and literary scholarship. The program aims to train highly qualified specialists capable of conducting independent research, teaching at higher educational levels, and contributing to the development of national linguistic and literary studies.
The curriculum provides in-depth study of modern linguistics, including phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, discourse analysis, and sociolinguistics, with particular emphasis on the structure, history, and development of the Uzbek language. Alongside linguistic training, students engage with Uzbek literature, studying its historical periods, major authors, genres, and contemporary literary processes through critical and theoretical perspectives.
From the beginning of the academic year, students select a research topic aligned with their academic interests and work under the guidance of an experienced supervisor. This research forms the basis of the Master’s dissertation, which demonstrates the student’s ability to apply linguistic and literary theory, analyze texts, and contribute original insights to the field. The program emphasizes academic writing, research methodology, and the use of primary and secondary sources.
