Microbiology is a discipline that involves the study of bacteria, viruses, parasites, fungi and immunology. The greatest achievements in medical sciences has attributed to the development in diagnostics, treatment and prevention of several Infectious diseases. Microbiology with fundamentals on infectious diseases contributed immensely to the prevention and management of many communicable diseases.

Infection Control Committee plays a vital role in preventing hospital acquired infections (HAI) and setting guidelines for sterilization, Biomedical Waste Management, antimicrobial stewardship, vaccination programs etc., the scope of Clinical Microbiology continues to expand with control and prevention of emerging and re-emerging infections. The Department has a strong commitment in Research and Undergraduate – Postgraduate education.

It is housed in modern facilities with interactive faculty with strengths in pathogenic microbiology, environmental microbiology and microbial genetics. The Department also has excellent core facilities with social impact of services rendered to the patients. One of the major achievements of our department is the establishment of Molecular Diagnostics and Research Laboratory (MDRL) in the year 2020.
