Perched on the coast of Normandy, Le Havre is one of Europe’s busiest seaports, with Asia being one of its major trade routes. Since 2007, the city has been home to Sciences Po’s campus focusing on the Asia-Pacific region. Housed in a building overlooking the port, within a short distance of student residences and sports facilities, the Le Havre Campus offers students a convenient and picturesque setting for their studies. The Le Havre Campus hosts just over 300 students, of whom more than 65% are international. The campus’s small cohorts afford its students access to extensive support from academic staff, in both their studies and the student life on campus. The humanities and social sciences curriculum on the Le Havre Campus of the Undergraduate College is taught in English. It allows students to focus on the history of the Asia-Pacific region, and its geopolitical, social and economic issues, analysing these comparatively with US and EU politics. In a range of specialist courses on particular countries, from Japan, China and Korea to India or Australia, students explore major issues surrounding economic and sustainable development, climate change, political transitions, and more. Students also have the choice of taking courses offered as part of the two thematic certificates open to undergraduate students: “Gender and Equality” and “Seas and Oceans”. The following are just a few of the courses currently offered on the Le Havre Campus: “The 19th Century in Europe and Asia: Revolutions, Empires and Nations”; “Heroes of the Silk Road: A Journey through Historical Fiction”; “Diplomats, Sea, Trade, Forces and Exchanges at Sea”; “Economic Models in Asia”; “Japan: Evolving Towards a Sustainable Society”, etc.
