The Department of Islamic Sharia began as a department affiliated with the College of Education under the name of the Department of Islamic Studies on May 27, 1400 AH (1400 A.H.), affiliated with King Abdulaziz University. It was later incorporated into Umm Al-Qura University pursuant to Royal Decree No. 4187 on October 27, 1402 AH (1402 A.H.). Following the issuance of Royal Decree No. 14/35/1426 by Taif University following the restructuring of the university's colleges and departments, the restructuring of the College of Education was approved by Royal Decree No. 14/35/1426 on October 18, 1426 AH (1426 A.H.). Following the separation of the College of Education from the College of Arts, the Department of Islamic Studies became part of the College of Arts. In 1428 AH, the department's name was changed to the Department of Sharia and Islamic Studies. In 1429 AH, the College of Sharia and Regulations was established, and the Department of Sharia became affiliated with it.
