GENERAL OBJECTIVES: Provide specialized knowledge to professionals in criminal law so that they have an integrated understanding of criminal law, based on a solid theoretical and practical basis, offering new instruments for the exercise of criminal law, in addition to the study and analysis of cases and jurisprudence.
Facilitate topics of application in Criminal Law and the guarantees that govern the criminal process and its expression in current regulations, as well as the fundamental aspects of Paraguayan criminal procedure.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: Provide elements for a comprehensive and articulated understanding of the theory of crime, punishment and Criminal Law specifically in its Special Part of current legislation, for a refined technique in the systematic study of the different crimes whose analysis is proposed, in order to be able to determine by itself the content of the matter of prohibition of the corresponding criminal types.
Offer mechanisms for the application of International Criminal Law and the field of Childhood and Adolescence to understand that the analysis of the criminal types presented must be carried out systematically, in such a way as to be able to establish the existing bankruptcy relations between the different criminal figures.
Transmit general notions on Economic Criminal Law, Criminological Theories and on the specificities of Criminal Psychology, for a systematic interpretation of the legal-criminal system.
Provide the bases and constitutional foundations of the Criminal Process and elementary principles on the Procedural Subjects, in order to assume a critical attitude towards the issues debated in doctrine and reflected in the jurisprudence, adopting a position and congruently substantiating such a selection.
Analyze the means of proof and the general elements of the oral and public trial, to understand the structure and dynamics of the criminal process and the main special and alternative procedures.
Inquire about the different regimes of the recursive System and Special Procedures in the different instances, to provide the essential elements that allow applicants to solve with practical and effective sense the different issues that currently arise in the field of criminal law and criminal procedure.
The applicant for the Master's Degree in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure must have a university degree. Lawyers, Notaries, graduates of national or foreign universities who meet the entry requirements of the Postgraduate Regulations of the American University.

The curricular framework includes a total of 130 credits distributed among the learning units that must be approved to obtain the Master's degree. The program will be taught over a period of 24 months plus the corresponding thesis.

Photocopy of certificate authenticated by the Notary Public of the Bachelor's Degree previously legalized in the Rectorate of the University of origin, registered and legalized in the Ministry of Education and Culture.
