Admission Requirements

You will need to have completed 1 year of the specialty in General Surgery. Furthermore, you should have the following knowledge:

  • Metabolic response to trauma (hemodynamic, metabolic, and biochemical changes).
  • Fluids and electrolytes (normal composition and distribution, regulation of the balance of fluids, electrolytes, and acid-base, requirements and losses in the surgical patient).
  • State of shock (etiopathogeny, diagnosis, and treatment of the different types of shock).
  • Physiology of coagulation, transfusions, anticoagulants, and complications).
  • Peri-operatory care (risk assessment, preparation, trans and post-operatory monitoring, and complications).
  • Nutrition in surgery (Clinical H., physiopathology of malnutrition, treatment, and care of parenteral diet).
  • Healing and care of surgical wounds (cicatrization process and pathological cicatrization).
  • Surgical techniques (basic principles, suture materials, staplers and drainage, suture techniques, use of mesh, general concepts in laparoscopic surgery).
  • Skin and subcutaneous adipose tissue.
  • Trauma (wound, transport, triage mechanism, urgent measures in initial diagnosis and management of trauma).
