The  MA in Communications and Technology (MACT) at the University of Alberta offers a theoretical, historical and practical examination of communications in the era of the Internet, social media and the mobile device. The degree is designed for working professionals who manage communications issues and practices in technology-enabled organizations. This graduate degree can be completed in a minimum of two years. The curriculum for the course-based program includes seven mandatory core courses. Coursework covers small-group and organizational communication; the theory, history, and practice of information and communications technologies; and the research skills associated with analyzing and evaluating these technologies, particularly as they are managed and used in the workplace. In addition, students complete three electives which can be taken at any time during the program (except during the first and second spring institutes).
