The environmental policy major is an interdisciplinary program in environmental studies. It rests on the premise that students must be able to combine an understanding of the scientific basis for environmental problems with knowledge of human needs, history, politics, and economics to derive practical solutions to environmental issues. Correspondingly, course work involves classes with environmental scholars in various natural science, social science, and humanities departments. While providing a rigorous and broad educational experience, the major also allows students to custom design an area of strength using elective course work. Students are encouraged to use an internship or study abroad as a capstone experience for the major. Both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees are offered. In addition to the differences in core requirements, note the differences in MATH and STAT requirements. Students majoring in environmental policy should carefully note the prerequisites listed below and plan the use of their elective courses accordingly. Planning in conjunction with the program advisors is highly recommended.
