The University of Tulsa offers an interdisciplinary major in Russian studies. The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Russian studies is comprised of 33 hours of course work in Russian language, literature and culture, history, and politics. The major provides students with a knowledge and understanding of historical and contemporary Russia, as well as with the ability to use the Russian language. Students have the opportunity to live and study for a summer, a semester, or a year in Russia. The Woolslayer Room in Russian Studies is richly furnished with instructional materials, including Russian periodicals, maps, videos and DVDs, access to satellite broadcasts from Russia, and advanced computing and video projection systems. It serves as the centerpiece of innovative language instruction using an approach developed in Russia, as well as a resource for other courses in the program. Study abroad programs in Saint Petersburg are offered through consortia with which The University of Tulsa is affiliated, including CIEE and AIFS. Courses taken through these programs are evaluated for transfer credit toward the major on a case-by-case basis by the director.
