Industrial Engineering is a field of engineering concerned with the optimization of complex processes or systems. It integrates concepts from engineering, mathematics, and social sciences aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of organizations. The work of industrial engineers entails system analysis to identify problems, devise ways of solution development, and implement changes to improve such systems. They get involved in various industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, etc. The main tasks of the industrial engineers also include designing and improving the production processes, facility layout development for efficiency, supply chain management, quality control, etc. They achieve these goals by utilizing simulation modeling, statistical analysis, data analytics, and lean manufacturing principles. The work of an industrial engineer also deals with human factors engineering, which interacts between humans and technology to develop user-friendly systems. A career in industrial engineering offers numerous opportunities for professional growth and advancement. With more companies seeking ways to further develop and achieve an advantage in their processes, industrial engineers are highly in demand. Building a great basis of problem-solving, thinking analytically, and applying systems thinking are various ways where an industrial engineer could be highly beneficial to any-sized organization.
The Industrial Engineering Department began its undergraduate programs almost simultaneously with the establishment of Urmia University of Technology in 2006, making it one of the oldest academic departments at the university. Furthermore, the department commenced its graduate programs in 2008. Currently, the Industrial Engineering Department offers both undergraduate and graduate programs. The department offers the following programs:
Undergraduate: Industrial and Systems Engineering
Graduate: 1) Production and Services Systems, 2) Systems Modeling and Data Analysis
Currently, the Department of Industrial Engineering has nine faculty members who are graduates of the best universities both domestically and internationally.
