The University of Chichester Dance department has a well-established reputation for nurturing and developing creative graduates.  It offers regular opportunities to perform on your own or with others, while working with professional choreographers and dancers through our performance programmes, in The Showroom and The Studio Theatre spaces. The Dance Department provides a challenging and rewarding opportunity for you to train and explore theory through practice. The Dance, Aerial and Physical Theatre programme introduces aerial arts and physical theatre alongside a dance focused theoretical, practical and choreographic scheme of study, which develops technical skills whilst building an understanding of contemporary dance practice. It offers a unique opportunity to explore narrative, character, construction of scene and costume through movement practice which engages with various aerial techniques as well as physical theatre and site-specific work.

Applicants will be required to participate in a dance audition (two and half hour practical) designed to assess your potential to respond both technically and expressively. Evidence of interest in and training / experience in dance is explored in a paired interview.

We accept a wide range of internationally recognised qualifications. As a general guide, most of our undergraduate programmes accept one of the following.

  • A recognised and relevant foundation/Access course (minimum pass mark for a UK-based foundation programme is usually 55%)
  • High School Diploma (to age 18) where it is deemed equivalent to A Levels (3 A Level passes at BCC/CCC)
  • An International Baccalaureate (28 points)
  • EDEXCEL BTEC National Diploma (MMM-DMM)

As a general guide, for postgraduate study you'll need to hold the equivalent of a good honours degree (a 2:1 or 2:2 depending on the course) from a recognised university.

We also accept applications from students who have completed a 'top-up' degree at a UK university. If you hold a UK degree you don't need to provide an IELTS or other English language test certificate.
