This exciting degree gives you the chance to study two of humanity’s most popular forms of cultural expression – art and literature. You’ll develop a deep understanding of literature in English from the medieval period to the present day, as well as an awareness of how art has been produced and received. You’ll combine core modules introducing you to the key approaches and themes of English literature and history of Art with a wide range of optional modules, which span across nations and periods. The array of topics you could cover spans from Arthurian literature to contemporary fiction and world theatre, aesthetics to museum studies, Buddhist monuments to the Danish “golden age”. With so many galleries and museums nearby, such as the Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, as well as a vibrant cultural scene, it’s a fantastic place to discover these two different but complementary disciplines.
