An extended degree for those looking to progress to degrees in biological sciences, maths, chemistry, physics, food science, engineering, computing or healthcare. During the foundation year, you will receive an intensive introduction to the academic skills that are necessary for success as a science undergraduate at the University of Leeds. Core modules in chemistry, mathematics and skills are taken concurrently with the study of either biology or physics (depending on your progression route) to develop a knowledge and understanding of facts, concepts and principles within and across each of the scientific disciplines. You also gain skills for academic and scientific inquiry in practical, laboratory and fieldwork. On successful completion of the foundation year, and subject to meeting the requirements for progression, you will progress to year one of your chosen degree course.

* Your permanent address is in a neighbourhood with low progression to higher education.
* You attended a school which achieved less than the national average of 5 A*-C passes at GCSE.
* You grew up in public care.
