Our Social Policy and Crime degree is an interdisciplinary programme which explores the fast-growing policy area of crime and will provide you with the expertise to understand and critically appraise how the institutions of the modern state seek to control deviance and criminality. Throughout the course you’ll study crime in depth, as well as gaining a broad understanding of education, health, housing and poverty. You’ll explore why some activities are seen as deviant or criminal, why some members of society negotiate the justice system more easily than others, and the varying responses to crime. You will explore criminological theories with particular attention to class, gender, race and age.
