Global Health option: emphasizes the foundational values of global primary health care including health equity, cultural safety, social participation in health, and integrated, whole-person care over the life-span. Topics include primary health care policy and practice, decolonizing approaches, program management, social determinants of health and heath equity, and healthcare delivery innovations. The thesis must focus on an international or Canadian global health issue.
Medical Education option: is designed to provide research training to family physicians, and exceptionally other health professionals and other students interested in family medicine education research. This option has very close ties to the Family Medicine Educational Research Group (FMER), which integrates family medicine researchers deeply committed to the development of the family medicine education field of inquiry.

- Practicing family physicians
- Undergraduate university students with a strong interest in family medicine research
- Family medicine residents who are completing their residency and would like to continue with their education by completing an enhanced skills program specializing in family medicine research with the possibility of obtaining an M.Sc. degree. What do we look for?
High academic achievement: A cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.4 is required out of a possible maximum CGPA of 4.0, or a GPA of 3.6 is required in the last two years of full-time studies.
Proof of competency in oral and written English: TOEFL: International students who have not received their instruction in English, or whose mother tongue is not English, must pass the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum score of 86 on the Internet-based test (iBT), with each component score not less than 20 (internet-based test).
