Curriculum The IR major requires the completion of 12 courses in the IR curriculum (Core and Thematic Concentration) plus completion of the IR language requirement and a capstone requirement. Students should immediately begin using an IR Major Checklist, to better understand the requirements and to track their progress. This form should be updated before each registration period and used in consultation with your advisor. The IR Program supports students inside and outside the classroom through research opportunities, student-run groups, mentoring, and by bringing students together for scholarly discourse. Conducting original research is an invaluable opportunity for students to become scholars: seeking out new knowledge, constructing and testing hypotheses, and formulating their own conclusions and in the process becoming vital contributors to international understanding and a global society. The program's student groups, although just a slice of the various student groups on campus organized around international issues, give IR students an opportunity to shape the program and bring the major's many students together. The program has also developed Core Forum as an informal discussion group, where students and faculty have the opportunity to discuss current issues in international relations outside the classroom. IR students may also benefit from mentoring from graduate students in the Fletcher School and junior and senior IR students.
