The Master of Science, Applied (M.Sc.A.) Nurse Practitioner (Non-Thesis) offered by the Ingram School of Nursing in the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences is a course-based program that emphasizes career-focused and engaging learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in literature review, problem-solving, and communication to pursue professional opportunities (or potentially continue their studies).
The program focuses on one of the following options:
Adult Care option: is designed to prepare students to be Adult Care Nurse practitioners who provide advanced-practice nursing care (including performing assessments, forming medical impressions, providing treatments, and ensuring continuity of care) to the adult population with complex acute, chronic or critical health issues, requiring secondary and tertiary line of care.
Mental Health option: focuses on assessment, diagnosis, care and treatment of mental illness in primary, secondary and tertiary care settings.
Neonatology option: focuses on the multifaceted role of nurse practitioner in intermediate, acute, and critical care in neonatology. Students acquire the necessary knowledge/understanding required to practice in a collaborative manner in providing services designed to deal with the health care needs and problems of neonates and their families in a variety of settings.
Pediatrics option: focuses on a secondary and tertiary of the pediatric population. Students acquire the necessary knowledge/understanding to perform tasks related to physical assessment, clinical impressions, and treatment within legally sanctioned, pre-determined conditions that have traditionally been exclusive to medical practice.
Primary Care option: focuses on a wide range of acute and chronic health concerns across the life span and includes activities related to assessment, diagnosis and treatment within the primary care nurse practitioner’s legally sanctioned scope of practice.
