Admission Requirements

The Research Master’s programme in Clinical and Developmental Psychopathology is open to both Dutch and international students. The Faculty’s Admission Board will decide upon your admission after having evaluated your complete online application.

Please note that this Master programme has a strong focus on scientific research and is especially suited for students who wish to pursue an academic career. If you are looking for a Master’s programme that has a strong focus on clinical research or clinical training, you might want to look into doing a clinical master.

Students must meet the following admission requirements:

1. Academic requirements

Your previous education needs to be deemed equivalent to at least a Dutch academic Bachelor’s degree ( wetenschappelijk onderwijs, WO ) obtained at a research university (nominal duration 3 years).

2. Programme specific requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Psychology or Education, or a closely related subject (approved by the admission committee)

  • GPA of 7.5 (Dutch grading system) or international equivalent thereof (e.g. B  or a GPA of 3.6) or higher, with an 8 (A-) or higher for your final thesis

  • 12 ECTS in introductory level course in clinical diagnosis and assessment of mental health problems and risks

  • 12 ECTS in research methods/statistics

  • Methods and statistics are an essential part of our programme. A quick test will give you an insight in what skills and knowledge are required to successfully take part in our programme

3. English-language proficiency requirements

You will have to demonstrate sufficient English language proficiency. You can find an overview of relevant information to demonstrate your English language proficiency on the language requirement page . 

Although complete applications are preferred, you can begin your application before you have completed the English Language Proficiency test and then submit your passing score once you have been conditionally admitted.
