The Bachelor of Speech Pathology encompasses all aspects of communication including:speechwritingreadingsignssymbols and gestures.Speech pathologists also work with people who have difficulties swallowing food and drink, such as children with a cleft lip and palate.Clinical placement is offered throughout this speech pathology degree, starting in the first year. In the fourth and final year, clinical placement is a major part of the course. To be eligible for admission to the Bachelor of Speech Pathology, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12 level, or equivalent:

New South Wales

  • Prerequisites: English (Advanced) or English (Standard) (Band 4) or English as a Second Language (Band 4); plus at least one of biology, chemistry, physics, or personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE).

Queensland

  • Prerequisites: English (4, SA) and at least one of biology, chemistry, physics, health education or physical education (4, SA).

Victoria

  • Prerequisites: Units 3 and 4 - a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or 25 in any other English; and a study score of at least 25 in one of biology, chemistry, physics, health and human development, or physical education.
