Din Chemistry over three major areas including physical chemistry, inorganic
chemistry and organic chemistry. More specialized areas such as Synthetic
Organic Chemistry, Organometallic Chemistry, Surface Chemistry, Biological
Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Nano Chemistry and
Material Chemistry are also covered.The department presently has about 11
faculty members, all of whom participate in the Ph. Deducational programs and
direct active research programs. There are also opportunities for research in
cooperation with other departments such as Chemical engineering, Food
Engineering, Textile Engineering, Materials and Metallurgical Engineering etc.
and also with other universities and research organizations.
Ph. Dstudents are able to conduct quality
research in multidisciplinary areas of chemistry and publish their research
works in reputed journals. Students are also able to obtain RA/TA from the university,
they can also apply for different scholarship program (e.g., NST fellowship)
and work in different project woks as research assistants under the supervision
of the faculty members. The graduates of this department find rewarding careers
in widely varying fields encompassing chemical to pharmaceutical industries,
research organizations, teaching, and more.Many of them also find career or
Postdoctoral opportunities in the top ranked universities abroad.

Admission Requirements
40+
In
order to get admission to the Ph. D program an applicant
a) must have a minimum GPA of 3.00 out of 5.00 or 2.75
outof 4.00 or a first division or equivalent in SSC or HSC orDiploma in Engg.
or in equivalent examinations;and
b) must have at least 50% marks or a minimum CGPA of
2.75out of 4.00 or its equivalent in B Sc. Engg. / Four-year B Sc.degree or M
Sc. degree in the relevant branch.
c) must have a minimum CGPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 or
itsequivalent in Masters degree in the relevant branch.
d) The above requirements may be relaxed for applicants
ondeputation or sponsored by Academic Institutions /Research Organizations /
International Organizations. Suchrelaxation shall be recommended by the
AdmissionCommittee of the Department of Chemistry for approval ofAcademic
Council.
Specific
requirements for the Department of Chemistry are that:The minimum qualification
for admission shall normally be MSc./M Phil. Degree in Chemistry or its
equivalent from anyrecognized Institution.

Masters Degree in Engineering discipline or its
equivalent.
