To
get admission to the Ph.D (CE)degree program, an applicantmust have:
(i)
A minimum GPA of
3.00 out of 5.00 or 2.75 out of 4.00 or a first division orequivalent in SSC or
HSC or Diploma in Engineering or equivalent examinations; and
(ii) At least 50% marks or a minimum CGPA of 2.75 out of
4.00 or its equivalent in B Sc.Engineering (Four-year B Sc. degree or M Sc.
degree with a three-year B Sc. degree) in Civil Engineering/ relevant branch;
and
(iii) A minimum CGPA of2.75 out of 4.00 or equivalent in a
Master's degree in Civil Engineering(M Sc. Engineering / M Engineering Degree
in the appropriate branch) or equivalent from any recognized Institution/ relevant
branch.
** The above requirements mentioned in (ii) and
(iii) may be relaxed up to CGPA 2.65 ona scale of 4.0 for applicants on
deputation or sponsored by Academic institutions/Research
Organizations/International Organizations. Such relaxation shall be recommended
by the Admission Committee of the respective Department for approval bythe Academic
Council.

To be eligible for admission into the Ph.D. program at DUET:
• The applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.00 out of 5.00 or 2.75 out of 4.00 or first division/equivalent in SSC/HSC/Diploma or equivalent.

• Applications for provisional admission can be submitted to the Registrar in any semester.
• Each department has an Admission Committee that selects eligible candidates.
• Provisionally admitted students may need to complete non-credit prerequisite courses.
• A supervisor (and if needed, co-supervisor) is appointed upon provisional admission, subject to approval by the CASR.
• Final registration occurs after the student passes the comprehensive examination.
• A Ph.D. must be completed within 3 to 7 academic years from the date of provisional admission.
• A minimum of 54 credit hours is required, of which 45 credits are assigned to Thesis work.
• Full-time students must register for 12–15 credit hours per semester and cannot be employed elsewhere.
• Part-time students (with employer consent) can register for up to 9 credit hours per semester.
• Coursework includes class tests, assignments, term papers, and end-of-semester written exams.
• The grading scale is:
o A+ (≥90%) = 4.00 (Excellent)
o A (80–89%) = 3.50 (Very Good)
o B+ (70–79%) = 3.00 (Good)
o B (60–69%) = 2.50 (Average)
o C (50–59%) = 2.00 (Pass)
o F (<50%) = 0.00 (Fail)
• A minimum GPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 is required to qualify.
• F grades must be repeated; up to two B or C grades may be ignored upon request if GPA and credit requirements are otherwise met.
• After passing the comprehensive exam and completing coursework, students must submit a research proposal approved by the Doctoral Committee and CASR.
• A minimum of 2 publications (at least one in a journal) relevant to the research is required.
• The final thesis/dissertation must demonstrate original research and be submitted in the prescribed format.
• An oral defense will be conducted by an Examination Board consisting of internal and external members.
• If a student fails, one chance for re-submission and re-examination may be allowed.
