Bachelor of Industrial and Production Engineering

Industrial & Production Engineering is emerging as a specialized branch of Mechanical Engineering with an objective of enabling engineers to improve efficiency and effectiveness of both manufacturing and service sector industries. A strong emphasis is laid on designing of such systems of Man-Machine-symbiosis, which facilitate optimum utilization of scarce resources. It is connected with the design of Man-Machine system that attempts to optimize the resources, which is becoming increasingly scarce.   The Department of Industrial & Production Engineering, DUET, Gazipur has been offering Under-graduate Program since its inception of 2012 and is under the Mechanical faculty of the university. The course curricula has been designed compatible to the existing and emerging needs of the industry. The four academic years of study for the degree of B. Sc. Engineering are designated as first year class, second year class, third year class and fourth year class in succeeding higher levels of study. Each academic year comprises two semesters. A candidate for admission into the 1st year class must have passed the minimum 3 or 4 years Diploma in Engineering examination from Bangladesh Technical Education Board (after 10 years of schooling) or any examination recognized as equivalent there to and must also Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology, Gazipur fulfill all other requirements as may be prescribed by the Admission Committee. All undergraduate students complete a total of credit of 159.5 in four years duration in order to earn a B.Sc. Engg. degree in Industrial and Production. The syllabus of this department comprised of courses regarding engineering (Industrial and Production Engineering), related engineering (Electrical and Electronics engineering, Mechanical engineering, Computer science engineering etc.), basic science (Physics, chemistry, mathematics), humanities and social science.   The department shows no hesitation in imbibing valuable suggestions of eminent experts from World class Institutions while framing teaching schemes or course curricula. Faculty of Industrial & Production Engineering Department is quite energetic and experienced. Culture of teamwork predominates in the department. Also, there is a cordial work environment between the faculty and the students. Adequate inputs of practical training, industrial training, case studies, and project work/thesis and computer applications are given to support core theory courses.   The program’s vision is “to be a center of excellence for world class education, research and innovation in Industrial and Production Engineering to meet up the challenges of the world”. Mission of this program is  “1) to create, develop and foster capability amongst the students through teaching a rigorous curriculum of Industrial and Production Engineering, 2) to enhance knowledge of fundamental principles and innovative technologies through teaching, learning and research in multi-disciplinary domains, focusing on Industrial and Production Engineering, 3) to improve the quality of the graduates through applied knowledge, creative thinking and problem solving skills in professional engineering for social development, 4) to develop the graduate’s capability with highest ethical and professional standards for performing leadership roles, 5) to promote enthusiasm for higher education towards career development and to provide advisory services national and international levels”.
