The Doctor of Education (EdD) programme is aimed at experienced educators and professionals in education settings who aspire to extend their expertise in a particular specialised area, and their professional knowledge in a broad range of educational contexts through core courses.
Upon the completion of the programme, students should be able to: a. demonstrate an expert knowledge, understanding and competence in the specialised area and in the larger educational context; b. generate appropriate theoretical frameworks to address, analyse and propose innovative approaches to a broad range of educational issues; c. develop insights into research trends in the specialised area and demonstrate readiness to contribute to the professional literature in that field; d. analyse educational policies, processes or practices from different perspectives critically; e. effectively communicate concepts and theories within the specialised area to an audience of peers both locally and internationally; and f. demonstrate a thorough understanding of ethical practices within the specialised area.

Tuition fees and cost of living
Tuition fees for MPhil and PhD students are around US$5,400 a year, while taught master’s degrees will set you back US$16,500-67,400 for the whole programme. Tuition fee for Doctor of Education is around US$49,400 for the 72-cp programme. Student accommodation costs between US$2,150-$3,270 per academic year for research students. Explore fees here.

Postgraduate scholarships for international students
All full-time UGC-funded research students admitted to an MPhil or a PhD are eligible for EdUHK’s Research Postgraduate Studentships, which are awarded on the basis of academic merit. It is non-taxable and its value varies from year to year. In the 2024/25 academic year, for example, the monthly stipend is about US$2,350 for all MPhil and PhD students and roughly US$2,420 for post-candidacy PhD students.
