Our students work closely with full-time faculty who are active researchers and committed teachers. Majoring in Computer Science: Regardless of the degree path that you might take, computer science offers an excellent opportunity to experience an extensively diverse field. Rapidly developing computer technologies require employers to look for professionals with a broad background and range of skills: analytical thinking, problem-solving expertise, technical knowledge, as well as good communication and interpersonal skills. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects occupations in computing to be among the fastest growing over the next decade. As you prepare for a career in one of today?s hottest fields, internships and service learning will become an important part of your experience. Thanks to our location within the New York metropolitan area, you?ll have unmatched access to a wide variety of internship opportunities, most paid and many eligible for course credit. Companies such as IBM, New York Life, Pepsi and many other leading employers offer internships that give our students an invaluable link between the classroom and the workplace??and often a job upon graduation. You?ll also put your skills to work for the greater good. For example, as part of the introductory database class, students recently built databases and web pages for a number of area not-for-profit organizations. Some of our students also help to teach a class in basic computer skills to senior citizens. CS Student Learning Outcomes At the completion of the program, students should be able to: analyze the requirements of a computing problem design the solution of a computing problem implement the solution of a computing problem using appropriate data structures and programming languages use mathematical underpinnings of the discipline of computer science examine the efficiency of the design of a hardware and a software system recognize the ethical, legal and social implications of computing in a global society use oral and written communication skills to convey technical information effectively and accurately use their interpersonal skills when working in a team environment
