Do you love to debate, argue, advocate and analyze? If so, welcome to Political Science at Iona. We offer a rigorous, dynamic program that will give you a chance to explore complex issues of government, law, policy and international relations. You will gain an understanding of how political movements shape our times, while you develop the tools to become an agent of positive change in the world. Follow your passion for politics The study of Political Science at Iona opens up a world of possibilities. You may choose to focus in traditional areas such as Public Policy or Pre-law, or take advantage of our interdisciplinary major in International Studies. A minor in Political Science complements many other disciplines, from Business to Environmental Studies. Our challenging academic program is excellent preparation for graduate school and has led our graduates to successful careers in many areas, including law, business, education, media, government and public policy. Supportive faculty, outstanding opportunities As a Political Science major, you?ll learn in small classes taught by engaged, enthusiastic faculty members who will become your mentors and advisors, supporting your goals with internship and research opportunities as well as career guidance. Active scholars and researchers, our faculty regularly publish and present at conferences; you?ll also find them featured in the media as political experts. Iona?s proximity to New York City is a real plus for our students. With campus just 20 miles north of midtown Manhattan, you?ll have access to exciting, hands-on internships in national and international government agencies as well as state, county and local organizations. Student Outcomes Upon completion of the Political Science major at Iona, students will be able to: Analyze, speak and write about political theory and events in the major sub-fields of political science; Apply social scientific reasoning and theories to the analysis of a wide range of political issues and problems; Generate and test hypotheses about political processes, relationships and institutions or engage in conceptual analysis and interpretation of political ideas, arguments, and phenomena; Complete independent research projects in political science
