Where there is a need in this world you will often find a social worker making a difference. In hospitals, police departments, mental health clinics, schools, military facilities and even corporations, social workers apply their professional skills and training in ways that improve lives and solve human problems?moving the world one person at a time. If helping others is your passion, our social work program offers the rigorous preparation you need to begin practicing in the field or to pursue graduate studies at the Master of Social Work (MSW) level. In fact, most of our students are able to complete their BS and MSW in five years because they qualify for advanced standing status, a measure of both the quality of our curriculum and the commitment of our faculty. Professional skills in demand The need for social workers is predicted to increase by more than 25% in the next decade?an increase that is higher than many other professions. As a graduate of a program that is highly regarded by both graduate schools and employers, you?ll have an advantage in a market where your skills are in demand. Student Outcomes To prepare students for competent generalist social work practice. To serve the diverse constituents of both the college and the broader communities within which the program is situated. To advance the profession by modeling professional engagement and career-long learning through the pursuit of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. The Iona College Social Work Department is equally dedicated to pursuing teaching excellence and scholarship; to serving as a vital resource to the Iona, local, and greater New York metropolitan communities; as well as to advancing the purposes and mission of the profession.
