LMU's Art History program exposes students to diverse artistic traditions, providing a full understanding of the historical, religious, theoretical, and cultural context of works of art and visual culture. Our undergraduates study both the meaning and purpose of the visual arts, their development through history, their role in society, and their relationship with other expressions of a culture. Through these studies, our students gain a keen perception and understanding of art and its visual and symbolic language. Students majoring in Art History should be able to: Demonstrate that they comprehend historical contexts for diverse artistic traditions AND Exhibit knowledge of the impact of diverse cultural contexts on the production and understanding of artistic traditions.
