The Foundation Year enables you to gain the skills for your chosen degree course, in this instance, our BA (Hons) Economics. Each year we welcome students from a range of traditional and non-traditional backgrounds who have the ability to study at university level, but don’t have the UCAS tariff points to enter directly onto an honours degree. The inclusive nature of the course is reflected in the entry requirements and you may find yourself studying alongside students with BTEC, NVQ, A Level and other Level 3 qualifications or students with relevant work experience. The content of the Foundation Year is designed to ensure that you progress directly onto Year 1 of the linked honours degree with confidence. After successful completion of the Foundation Year, you can choose to progress to the full-time course or the placement course (includes a work experience year). This course is part of the Business School’s Foundation Year and you will be studying with students who are progressing to a range of different degrees. You will be taught in the Business School’s state of the art building on All Saints Campus in central Manchester. We are a double-accredited business school, having gained the prestigious AACSB accreditation to provide excellence in global management education. This places us among the top 5% of business schools worldwide to have secured this accreditation and means your degree is internationally recognised. You will be able to apply for student finance (e.g. tuition fee loan, student loan and student maintenance grant) in the same way as other students. The Foundation Year enables you to adjust to university life, become familiar with our campus, and use the Library, Careers and Employability Service and Learner Development Service. The Faculty of Business and Law hosts two Professional Development Weeks annually. Free and open to all students, this includes a festival of skills-development activities, practical support in developing your CV and employability skills, and the opportunity to network with actively recruiting graduate employers.
