Michigan Tech’s MS program in Kinesiology provides advanced research and education related to health and human movement. The degree includes both a thesis and course work option. The thesis option includes course work and research focused in the areas of exercise and integrative physiology, biomechanics, or human performance. The course work option includes a more directed course work plan that is capped with an extended internship experience in cardiac rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, or fitness training/management.Kinesiology is a highly interdisciplinary field, and our graduate students work with faculty and students from not only the Department of Kinesiology and Integrative Physiology, but also other units across campus such as Biological Sciences, Applied Cognitive Science and Human Factors, and Biomedical Engineering. We encourage not only traditional research, but also a spirit of entrepreneurialism with both students and faculty. A total of 30 credits are required for the Kinesiology MS program. An accelerated degree option will be available beginning in Fall 2015 for qualified Michigan Tech students in which up to 6 approved credits can be double-counted towards undergraduate and graduate degrees.

As an undergraduate student at Michigan Tech, it’s simple: if you want to do research, you can. Real research—the kind that creates solutions for industry, gets patented (sometimes with your name on it!), or addresses the problems of our modern world. Last year, our undergraduates spent 126,000 hours working on paid research. We’re ranked among the top twenty universities in the US in the proportion of research that’s sponsored by industry. And nearly 25 percent of our invention disclosures include the names of students as inventors. Students also get published in scientific journals, present at national conferences, and interact with scientists and entrepreneurs from around the world.

Graduate programs at Michigan Tech have rigorous academic requirements set by the Graduate School. The links on this page detail these requirements, procedures to complete a graduate degree, and forms required to track your progress. Graduate programs may have additional requirements for students.
