AN INTRODUCTION TO THE PROGRAMME

The aim of this programme is to develop the necessary knowledge and skills for effective leadership and management in education organizations. Students will highlight and examine current scholarship and ideas in the field of educational leadership and management both globally and locally. The programme activities will promote the development of criticality, synthesis, deep reflection, and scholarly activities. Students will apply selected leadership and management strategies to their own professional practice and to an improvement project in the environment they operate.

Upon successful completion of this programme students will be able to critically appraise key concepts, theories, principles and challenges for effective leadership and management of educational organisations in diverse contexts. Students will also be able to critically self-evaluate leadership and management in professional practice in educational organizations.

In addition, students will develop an evidence-based understanding of the complex inter-relationships between educational policy, research, leadership & management, teaching, learning and achievement. Students will critically examine the impact of their own leadership and management skills in their workplace to reveal new insights on theory and practice.  Finally, students will be able to implement institutional change through fostering critical discussions around application of selected leadership and management strategies to improve their own educational organization.
