AN INTRODUCTION TO THE PROGRAMME

This programme investigates the structure of learning within our education systems and challenges thinking about how learning takes place in schools and colleges. The programme is designed for those who are interested in exploring ways of developing high quality learning and teaching where students are empowered to take responsibility for their learning. Pedagogical issues will be examined and critically assessed from a theoretical and practical perspective. Students will carry out a research project on one area of educational practice, the outcomes of which will be disseminated and have an impact on evidence-based approaches to learning.

Upon successful completion of this programme, students will be able to critically examine selected theory and practice of aspects of learning and teaching which meet personal and professional needs. Students will also select aspects of own learning and teaching practice by negotiating, planning and undertaking an action research project focused upon an evidence-based pedagogical approach. Also, students will be able to demonstrate criticality, synthesis, deep reflection, and scholarliness of current educational research.  They will incorporate educational research into their development as reflective practitioners and skilled self-managed learners who know how to improve their professional practice and look to develop a next steps approach.
