National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) wasfirst established in Beijing, China in 1911 and re-established in Hsinchu,Taiwan in 1956. On the 1st of November 2016, NTHU incorporated theNational Hsinchu University of Education (NHCUE) and added the colleges of artsand education.
NTHU is located in Hsinchu, a city 72kilometers south of Taipei. The campus covers an area over 366.02 acres ofscenic land and is strategically situated among many prestigious researchinstitutes and universities such as: the Industrial Technology ResearchInstitute, National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center, National Center forHigh-Performance Computing, National Chiao Tung University, and the HsinchuScience-Based Industrial Park.
Currently, NTHU has 10 colleges, 26departments, 27 graduate institute as well as 10 independent master anddoctoral programs. As of the Fall Semester of 2016, NTHU employs over eighthundred faculty members and enrolls 16,547 students, among them 9,006 areundergraduates, 5,808 in the master programs and 1,736 in the doctoralprograms. The student-faculty ratio is 20.48.
NTHUemphasizes interdisciplinary approach. In addition to upholding basiceducation, our undergraduate programs are designed to maximize flexibility aswell as integration. Students are encouraged to cross disciplinary boundary topursue their minor or double-major degrees programs.
