The Department of Civil Engineering is considered one of the oldest departments in engineering colleges in universities at the global level, due to the comprehensiveness of this specialization for most of the engineering activities practiced by government agencies and engineering specialized bodies. The work of a civil engineer includes many aspects represented in the design, construction and maintenance of various engineering facilities such as concrete and metal buildings, bridges, roads, railways, reservoirs, dams, drinking water networks, irrigation, agricultural and sanitation drainage. The civil engineer also plays a prominent role in the design and management of various transportation systems, traffic safety, as well as taking care of different water resources in terms of engineering, and methods of sewage treatment and reuse, as well as finding solutions to soil problems and strengthening them from a structural point of view, managing engineering projects, calculating costs and construction methods.
The study plan for the undergraduate stage at the Faculty of Engineering at Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University is designed to achieve this comprehensiveness in the civil engineer’s job and to enable the student to have a sufficient, appropriate and balanced amount of knowledge, skills and abilities in each branch of this specialization, through an integrated set of university requirements and the requirements of the college from Basic sciences and general engineering courses, in addition to a group of civil engineering courses. In order to give the student the opportunity to delve deeper into the latest fields of civil engineering, the plan allows him to choose a number of courses from different sets of elective courses.
