China is extremely rich in human culture and natural heritage. It is the third largest country in the world in terms of cultural and natural heritage. The task of heritage protection is extremely arduous. By 2006, when the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units was announced, there were 2,351 national key cultural relics protection units in my country, and a large number of provincial, municipal, county and other cultural relics protection units at all levels, most of which belong to architectural heritage. In the past, the protection of architectural heritage in my country was mainly about emergency rescue, and the number was not large, so there was no such major. Therefore, multi-disciplinary development from planning to repair and management of architectural heritage is an important part of ensuring the specific protection of heritage from macro to micro. In recent years, with my country's accession to the World Heritage Organization and the annual World Heritage application activities, with the development of the economy and the process of urbanization, the capital investment and work investment in protection have increased. In addition to dozens of heritage sites, provinces and cities have become increasingly prominent. Many cultural relic bureaus lack professionals who are familiar with architectural heritage knowledge. There are more than ten provinces and cities across the country that have cultural relics or ancient architecture research institutes or design institutes. There are also many private repair and design offices for ancient buildings in major coastal cities. And a large number of engineering companies, government administrative departments where a large number of historical cities and cultural preservation units are located, such as the Department of Culture, Cultural Relics Bureau, museums, etc., also hope to recruit professionals who are familiar with the knowledge of architectural heritage, but their talents are all civil engineering ( Industrial and civil construction) or cultural or historical and a small number of environmental arts and architecture graduates.
The architectural history and theory major of Southeast University is currently the only national key discipline in this major, and architectural heritage protection has always been a research direction of this discipline in the past. In the 1980s, Southeast University has successfully held four seminars for cadres in the protection of ancient buildings. The more than 40 graduates it has trained have now become the backbone of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage in Beijing and other provinces. At present, Southeast University still offers various professional courses in architectural heritage protection at the master and doctoral levels, and in 2004 and 2005, it opened a doctoral and master's degree in architectural heritage protection and management, which paved the way for the undergraduate direction.
Architectural heritage protection is an academic field that emerged internationally after the 1960s. It is a new type of interdisciplinary subject with strong comprehensiveness. The existing disciplines and majors of the School of Architecture of Southeast University, such as architecture and urban planning, are important supports for heritage protection majors. and components, and many disciplines in the School of Civil Engineering, the School of Materials, the School of Humanities, etc. are also important and indispensable components. Relying on the advantages of the national key disciplines of the School of Architecture, and the comprehensive engineering advantages of Southeast University, the interdisciplinary parts of relevant disciplines are integrated into new disciplines, which can quickly occupy new positions in domestic disciplines and have an influence in Asia through scientific research. The new advantageous subject base. Breaking through the professional barriers, quickly integrating professional resources and expanding this new subject area with the research goal as the starting point is a work that my country and Southeast University should put in quickly and diligently.
