As a graduate in Marine Engineering, you will gain the science-based engineering skills necessary to develop the blue economy in a sustainable way.

Both in Denmark and abroad, there is a growing need for expertise within the maritime industries, including offshore wind, shipping, fishing, marine planning and coastal engineering, all of which are expected to grow in the coming years.

Science-based engineering solutions for sustainable blue growth require both an understanding of the marine environment – ​​both its physical and living components – as well as the knowledge and skills to implement engineering solutions in a marine environment. 

The focus of the education

The marine environment offers enormous opportunities for development – ​​the so-called blue economy. After all, the oceans make up over 70% of the earth's surface. However, it also contributes ecosystem services that are often underestimated or overlooked, including regulation of the global climate, a reservoir of biodiversity and fisheries production. Responsible development of the blue economy requires both technical expertise and an understanding of the marine environment.

The Master's program in Marine Engineering thus covers a wide range of courses within these different areas. The education integrates these and gives the graduate a set of highly valued skills.

Specializations

The education gives you the opportunity to choose a  specialisation:

  • Oceanography: here the focus is on the integrated understanding of the physics, chemistry and biology of the world's oceans, their role in the global climate and how they are affected by the development of the blue economy.
  • Applied marine technology: here the focus is on the technological challenges posed by the development of the blue economy, e.g. coastal construction, observation technology and how these affect the marine environment.
