The implementation of the Computer Engineering Program under the organizational structure of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FTI) began in September 2003 at the start of the new academic year, based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 1424s/D/T/2003. In its development, the Computer Engineering Program obtained the status of "Accredited B" effective from August 25, 2007, through Decree 047/Ban-PT/Ak-X/S1/XII/2012.
On August 23, 2016, the Faculty of Computer Science (FIK) was established, based on the Regulation of the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education No. 38 of 2015, which changed the organizational status of the Computer Engineering and Information Systems Programs from being under FTI to being under FIK. With this change, the implementation of the Computer Engineering Program is now managed under the organizational structure of FIK.
Based on the Vision of the University and the Faculty, the Computer Science Program at UPNVJT formulates its vision as "DEVELOPING EXCELLENT COMPUTER SCIENCE IN THE FIELD OF SMART AND USEFUL SYSTEMS WITH NATIONAL CHARACTER." This vision is expected to be achieved by 2039.
From 2020 to 2024, the policy direction of UPNVJT focuses on strengthening institutional capabilities oriented towards education and research with national character to enhance competitiveness at the ASEAN level, supported by human resources with expertise and research excellence. Therefore, the University's and Faculty of Computer Science's Strategic Plan serves as the main reference for planning and implementing activities in the Computer Science Program. The Scientific Vision of the Computer Science Program has content in accordance with the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI) at the Bachelor's level (Level 6) according to the educational level of the study program.
Graduates of the computer science bachelor's program are expected to become System Analysts, responsible for planning, analyzing organizational problems, formulating system requirements specifications, and designing software according to organizational needs.
