The course aims:
- to provide advanced teaching and training in research to postgraduate students in the theologies, scriptures, histories and philosophies, doctrines and practices of Christianity; and, as far as resources permit, of Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism, principally within their own traditions but also by means of comparative approaches;
- to provide high calibre students with an excellent education in these traditions which is informed by current developments in scholarship and research;
- to provide a stimulating environment in which students can reach their intellectual potential;
- to provide an integrated structure of learning and teaching;
- to help students develop a wide range of intellectual abilities and skills which will enable them to make a significant contribution in their chosen careers and walks of life, particularly training in academic research.

Applicants for this course should have achieved a UK High II.i Honours Degree.
If your degree is not from the UK, please check International Qualifications to find the equivalent in your country.
First or II.i honours degree with marks of at least 67 per cent or a GPA of at least 3.7 in the US system (in relevant subjects).
New Testament and Early Christianity applicants are required to have at least two years' study (intermediate level) of New Testament Greek.
Old Testament applicants must have knowledge of the relevant biblical languages notably Biblical Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek.
Philosophy of Religion applicants must have a strong philosophical background and relevant theological knowledge.
Religions in Antiquity applicants must have knowledge of Greek or Latin.
World Christianities applicants need a first degree in Theology, Religious Studies, History, Anthropology or another discipline involving contemporary cross-cultural study.
