The Bachelor of Finance in Asset Management and Private Banking [BFin(AMPB)] programme aims to prepare students to enter the rapidly growing fields of asset management and private banking in Hong Kong and the Asia Pacific. The curriculum covers (i) the management of money for institutions and individuals in different asset classes; and (ii) the provision of advice and services in private banking according to the specific needs of High Net-Worth Individual (HNWI) clients. It contains practical-oriented courses taught by teachers with solid experience in the AMPB industry, and offers a variety of enrichment activities relevant to the studies and frequent networking activities with market practitioners in its career-oriented components.
Asset management is the management of money for institutions and individuals in different asset classes, such as stocks and bonds. Private banking is the provision of advice and services, including investment, credit, trusts, etc. according to the specific needs of High Net-Worth Individual (HNWI) clients with liquid assets of US$1 million or more.
There is strong demand for qualified talents in the AMPB industry. According to the Capgemini-RBC Asia Pacific Wealth Report 2015, there has been significant wealth growth in Asia from US$9.7 trillion in 2009 to US$15.8 trillion in 2014, representing a 63% increase over 5 years. The number of HNWIs in Greater China alone has risen considerably, from 0.636 million in 2009 to 1.15 million in 2014, representing an 81% increase over 5 years.
The Asset Management and Private Banking industry was identified by the Financial Services Development Council (FSDC) in its report in January 2015 as one of the industries facing a strong shortage of talents. In response to the call from the industry to expand the pool of talents, the HKSAR Government is devoting its effort to attracting more new blood, to facilitate the long-term sustainable development of the sector.
