This five-year full-time programme offers students a solid theoretical background in normal human communication and its disorders as well as in related disciplines of medicine, psychology, English and Cantonese linguistics and hearing sciences.

Speech-language pathologists assess and treat individuals with a wide range of speech and language disorders, swallowing disorders and other communication difficulties. Speech-language pathologists work with individuals of all ages in various settings such as hospitals, schools, pre-school centres and private clinics.

This programme has obtained the full endorsement status by the Hong Kong Institute of Speech Therapists. Graduates are eligible to apply to be "Speech Therapist in Accredited Register" and are qualified to practise as registered speech-language pathologists in Hong Kong. Graduates are also eligible for membership of the Hong Kong Association of Speech Therapists. The degree is equivalent in content to similar courses in Australia and New Zealand. Graduates are also highly suitable for post-graduate studies in this or allied disciplines.

Programme Admissions Requirements for JUPAS  
Candidates need to have Level 4 or above in HKDSE English Language.  Candidates must be able to communicate effectively and fluently in both Cantonese and English. They are strongly advised to include their personal statement in English in the “Additional Information” of their JUPAS application and enter details about their other learning experiences or extra-curricular activities.

 
Programme Minimum Admissions Requirements for Non-JUPAS  
Candidates with different educational backgrounds are required to satisfy the basic University Entrance Requirements which can be found from the HKU website "Non-JUPAS Admissions Scheme".
